In the late 1960s, some Italian ateliers began weaving leather like fabric—not for decoration, but out of necessity: domestic machines couldn’t handle thick hides; one-piece leather garments were heavy and developed hard creases in wear; and there were many narrow offcuts left over. The simple, intelligent answer was to cut the hide into finely skived strips and interlace them into unified panels. This is how a “leather cloth” for bags and garments emerged: lighter in weight, more flexible in movement, stronger against tearing, more economical in materials, and with a surface that takes light evenly, without harsh glare. And although our jacket is made from soft, light sheepskin, it keeps the spirit of that era: a field built strip by strip—craft older than fashion—where the whole reads first and the details arrive later.
A clean metal zip sets the axis and keeps the front composed. Across the body, woven panels do the quiet work—strip by strip, a calm plaid with real depth. Sleeves are left smooth so the field reads first. At the waist, neat slits with double leather trims. On woven leather, setting a pocket is always a test: one misstep and the weave can come apart. Here it’s done quietly and precisely—the contrasting trims don’t sag, they hold the line, keep the rhythm of the weave, and affirm meticulous craftsmanship.
Along the edges—a quiet knit. It isn’t about sport or effect, but about form and the way the garment moves. The collar, cuffs, and hem give just the flexibility the neck, wrists, and step require, holding the contour without pull or ripples. The knit works like a fine frame: it eases bulk at the edges, helps the weave stay composed, and takes light without glare. It doesn’t call attention to itself—it simply fixes the line so the woven field can speak first.
What remains is steadiness without show—the weave holds attention; the line stays sure. Half a century on from quiet Italian ateliers, this jacket keeps their breath—tuned to the present.
